Energy recycling from municipal wastewater treatment plants in anaerobic membrane reactors in central Europe

The project: „Energy recycling from municipal wastewater treatment plants in anaerobic membrane reactors in central Europe“ under acronyme AnMem is solved with financial support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under programme for support of applied research and experimental development EPSILON in 2015 - 2017.

The project is focused on designing, construction and optimization of an anaerobic membrane bioreactor. Laboratory and pilot-plant AnMBR are the main goals of the project. The pilot-plant reactor will be installed and operated in an existing municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Czech Republic. Anaerobic processes in combination with the membrane separation will be studied under different conditions in order to optimize the pilot plant unit. Operation will be evaluated, considering: energetic operation, organic matter and suspended solids´ removal efficiency under psychrophilic conditions. A challenging issue is the minimization of membrane fouling, which is a crucial parameter in any type of membrane bioreactors. The reactor optimization will finally leed to a functional and reliable unit with high level of automation and safety regulations.

Consortium consists of industrial partner ASIO Ltd., engineer’s office KONEKO Ltd. and research organisation - University of Chemistry and Technology Prague.
