Octagon

The "Polygon Water Recycling" project CZ.01.1.02/0.0/0.0/19_262/0020109, abbreviated as the "Octagon" is carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the framework of the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations for Competitiveness - Application Call VII.

The project objective is to compare and critically evaluate the effectiveness of various technological solutions for processes of pollutant removals from wastewater during its recycling. The project will demonstrate the suitability of various technologies for recycling, submit innovative comparisons of technologies for the same incoming water and compare the effectiveness of pollutant removal processes for different water recycling applications - irrigation of agricultural land and landscape, recreational use, groundwater replenishment, indirect and direct use of drinking water and its recycling for industrial purposes. We envision replication of these technologies for industries with potential economic savings.

The following technologies will be used for water recirculation - microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis, as well as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, sand filtration, sorption and advanced oxidation processes – UV radiation and water ozonizing. These processes will be employed either individually or in various combinations in order to achieve the required efficiency of pollutant removal in selected recycling segments.

The main results of the project will be as follows:

  1. Proven water recycling technology for irrigation
  2. Proven water recycling technology for groundwater replenishment
  3. Proven water recycling technology for use of water for recreational purposes
  4. Proven water recycling technology for indirect use of drinking water

The coordinator of the project consortium is ASIO TECH, spol. s r.o., a Czech limited company. Another participant in the project is AQUA PROCON, s.r.o. and RECETOX Centre, an independent institute of the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno.
