The main project goal is to develop and test separation, treatment and utilization technology of waste sludge generated by plastic solid waste washing.
The project „Treatment technology of waste sludge generated by plastic solid waste washing“, working title RECREC, is being solved within the second call of the National Centre of Competence in Polymer Materials and Technologies for the 21st Century (NCC POLY-ENVI21) , with financial support of The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
The main project goal is to develop and test separation, treatment and utilization technology of waste sludge generated by plastic solid waste washing. Processed sludge will be used for the final product production. Carbon footprint and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the treatment technology and final product will be included.
Processed waste sludge is based on sludge from the industrial water’s biological treatment, waste plastics and packaging material washing. Small plastic particles and microplastics form certain part of separated sludge. The sludge is difficult-to-manage mixture because of large amount of paper fibers content. Separation, the partial project goal, is directly related to the verification of the separable plastic processability. Final utilization of separated plastic component will depend on the type of plastic, or the nature of the mixture and its purity.
The project is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach connecting companies active in the plastics industry, academic institutions focused on polymers material research, academic institutions focused on sustainability, ecology and LCA analysis, and engineering-contracting company active in waste water management. This connection will enable innovative solutions for waste management and creates great potential for the practical industry application.
