Saltwater pools

The Saltwater swimming pool Project is focused on saltwater management, treatment, cleaning and water reuse.

The aim of the project is based on the feasibility study to critically evaluate the potential of the proposed technological solution in the context of its commercial application in the Czech and foreign markets. The internal name of the project is S-AQUA from the Latin salt aqua, i.e. salt water.

The use of salt water in swimming pools is one of the modern trends of recent years. However, the salt water management is not only addressed to the private swimming pools owners that use salt water, but also by spas and wellness centres, aquariums or ZOOs.

The developed technological solution for the treatment/recycling of polluted saltwater will not only mechanically pre-treat the water, but also to removes specific pollutants, such as ammonia nitrogen which is toxic for fish. Another positive aspect of technological solution should be the reduction of operating and investment costs, also by reducing the amount of water consumed from the source, which is one of the basic principles in the fight against drought.

The subcontracting of a research partner for the successful solution of the project is carried out by the Faculty of Chemistry of BUT which has been dealing with the management of concentrated waters for a long time. Their experience will be used to design a suitable technology for treatment/recycling of saline waters.

The Saltwater swimming pool Project No. CZ.01.1.02/0.0/0.0/20_360/0023638 is solved with financial support provided by the MIT Proof of Concept grant programme. The duration of the project is two years, from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2022.
